PI board approves county budget
ROGERS CITY — The Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county budget during its meeting Friday.
The budget has expected revenues at $5,589,779 and expenses at $5,482,139.
Earlier in the meeting the board also discussed its contract with Target Alpena.
“They were looking for an increase to $25,000 from $20,000,” board Chairman Carl Altman said.
He said instead the board suggested a $1,000 increase, in subsequent years it gives higher increases. This way the county could look at progress being made, Altman said.
Commissioner Stephen Lang said it hass been a while since anyone from Target has visited the county.
“I reached out to them and asked while going through the reports and I do find a gap in the reports,” County Clerk Anne Marie Main said.
In exchange for the contract Target Alpena is supposed to promote Presque Isle County as part of a regional approach. The county and Target Alpena first entered into the arrangement in 2014.
“I don’t think it warrants that kind of increase,” Co-Chairman Bob Schell said.
Commissioners voted to approve the contract with a $1,000 increase 4-1 with Commissioner Lee Gapczynski voting against the motion.
“I don’t think they’ve done a whole lot for us to tell you the truth,” he said.
Commissioner Michael Darga said it has worked with Rogers City quite a bit.
∫ The board approved the purchase of a car for the equalization department at $14,995.
∫ The board approved ratified contracts with the police union and Steel Workers Union.
