Great turnout at zoning conference

ROGERS CITY — Zoning Administrator Toby Kuznicki reported to the Rogers City Planning Commission that a zoning training at the Presque Isle County Library was a good turnout.

“We had 35 people there anywhere from Mackinac down south to Alpena. It was a good turnout, good event and good information too,” he said.

Mayor Scott McLennan said the comments from the people who were there were so positive.

They said it was nice to have this kind of training in Northeast Michigan.

“I was real proud of the job you did there,” he said.

Kuznicki said they also had a training on Tuesday about wind power. He said Michigan State University Extension discussed with them about commercial wind farms.

“We’re going to also address solar,” Kuznicki said.

They will have an additional training on solar power in case there needs to be any zoning done in the future to set up solar power in a commercial setting.

“Where are we at in terms of zoning with any marijuana issue,” McLennan asked.

Kuznicki said the County Planning Commission was silent on the issue.

“At the county level we adopted because a township opted in,” he said.

McLennan said the City Council stayed silent on the issue as well.

“We educated ourselves and attended training. At this point we remain silent on the issue,” McLennan said.
