Board approves bids for repairs to entrance, roof

ATLANTA — The Montmorency County Board of Commissioners approved bids to have repairs completed on the front east entrance and the annex roof during its meeting on Wednesday.

The board received one bid for the front east entrance, Jon Schulze of Hillman for $19,844. The bid includes all materials and labor according to the specs that were provided, concrete removal and replacement and composite decking with a railing as needed.

The demolition and excavation would cost $4,500 and the materials and labor would cost $15,344.

“It’s a safety concern now,” Chair Daryl Peterson said of the current front east entrance.

The board approved Schulze’s bid 4-1 with Commissioner Don Edwards voting against. It has to be determined what fund the money will come from.

After discussion took place about finding out if the annex roof is guaranteed for any money from an insurance company, the board ultimately decided to open the sealed bids for the annex roof.

The board received three bids for the annex roof. The bids were Schulze for $49,590, Gideon Current Construction, LLC of Lewiston for $45,200, and Weatherseal Home Improvement, Inc. of Shelby Township for $68,800. The board approved Gideon Current Construction, LLC., 4-1 with Peterson voting against.

Gideon Current Construction, LLC’s bid includes materials for $24,000, dumpster for $3,000, permit for $200, and labor for $18,000 to equal the total of $45,200.

The company would take off the old shingles on the building and put them in the dumpster and add two layers of titanium high-temp winterguard around all the beams and valleys, which was included in the specs. A new drip edge and new shingles also were included in the bid.

The construction area will be taped off to redirect traffic from any hazards.

Both Schulze and Gideon Current Construction, LLC have to be contacted and a date to start construction at both sites will be determined at a later date.
