VFW Auxiliary gets three new apps at January meeting

The regular meeting of the VFW 2496 Auxiliary was presided over by Jr. Vice Linda Millard on Jan. 8, at 6 p.m. with 13 members attending. The secretary and treasurers reports were given and accepted. There were three new applications for membership, two annual and one transfer.

Several bills were presented and a vote taken to pay them. Tammy gave her bingo reports from November and December and made a donation.

Steve announced that he has put together a team for the auxiliary pool tournament in Newaygo Feb. 15 and 16 and requested a donation to help sponsor the team. Cheryl reported on the success of the children’s Christmas party and thanked all those who helped and supported it, as well as the adult Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties.

The new garbage disposal for the hall kitchen has arrived and is ready to be installed.

The charter was draped for life member Geraldine LaFleure and past District 13 President Jackie Spens. Also during new business ways to increase profit for bingo and other fund raising ideas were discussed.

A state VFW pool tournament in April and a dinner/dance in May are to be held at the Alpena Post, plus starting fish dinners again is already in the planning stages.

After closing ceremonies were conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 7:20 pm.

The next regular meeting will be Feb. 12 at 6 pm.
