VFW Post 2496 Auxiliary meetings held
On April 8 and May 13, the Auxiliary to VFW Post 2496 held monthly meetings.
In April, new officers were elected: President Patrick Niedzwiecki, Senior Vice Cheryl Ludwiczak, Junior Vice Heidi King, Treasurer Barb Stevens, Chaplain Darryl McQuarrie, Conductor Nancy Montie, Guard Winona Raquepaw, Three-year Trustee Nancy Montie, Two-year Trustee Darryl McQuarrie, and One-year Trustee Judi Brown.
Trevor Wooll was accepted as a new member and Brown reported on awarding several Quilts of Valor. A $250 donation was made to Friends Together to purchase gas cards.
In May, some changes were made involving the Auxiliary bingo information. Highway Cleanup will be done at 11 a.m. on May 17, and volunteers are needed. The Auxiliary grave flags were completed at Holy Cross Cemetery and the flags at Evergreen will be going on over the next week. Memorial Day, May 26 activities are the flower placements at the Alpena County Courthouse at 9:30 a.m., followed by a parade to Washington Park where a wreath will be thrown on the river and then proceed to Little Flanders Field for the laying of wreaths for each conflict during the main ceremony at 11 a.m.
Brown Trout Festival participation was discussed. The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on June 10.
