Kiwanis seeking candidates for MSP Law Enforcement Career Academy

ALPENA — The Alpena Kiwanis Club is seeking eligible candidates for this year’s Michigan State Police Law Enforcement Career Academy.

Since 1975, the Kiwanis Clubs, in cooperation with the Michigan State Police, have sponsored this program. High school students, currently in grades 10, 11, and 12, who have a sincere interest in a law-related career are eligible to apply for this weeklong program. Through presentations and discussion, as well as a few basic training exercises, students will get a hands-on experience that may help them to decide on such careers.

This program is a sampling of the State Trooper Recruit Training, not a summer camp. This year’s Academy will be held June 25 to 30 at the Michigan State Police Academy in Lansing, with police officers serving as mentors and staff. Instructors come from state, county and local police departments.

The program starts on Sunday, June 25 and ends with a closing ceremony on Friday morning, June 30.

The Alpena Kiwanis Club will review applicants and select the candidate(s) to submit to the Kiwanis Michigan District. Final selection of candidates will be made by Michigan State Police and the Kiwanis Michigan District. The candidate would only be responsible for transportation to and from Lansing.

For more information about this program, or for an application, contact Alpena Kiwanis Club representative Elaine Orr at alpenaelaine@gmail.com or 989-657-5476. The deadline for applications is March 15. Applications will be processed in the order received.
