‘Church Basement Ladies’ postponed

Alpena Civic Theatre’s presentation of “Church Basement Ladies” has been postponed until next weekend as a precautionary measure because of COVID-19 concerns.

Regional Defender Office open house Thurs.

The new Alpena County Regional Defender Office, which represents people accused of a crime who can’t afford their own attorney, will hold an open house from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the new office, 503 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena.

The group said in a flyer that visitors can meet the staff, learn about the services the office provides, and enjoy light refreshments.

Craft fair Dec. 11

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2496, 2900 Connon St., will host a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 11.

The show will feature crafts made by local artists.

Alpena DDA meetings set

The Alpena Downtown Development Authority will host a pair of informational meetings this month to inform the public of the organization’s goals, including projects the DDA plans to tackle in the coming year.

Foundation announces grant opportunities

The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan is now accepting grant applications for the winter 2022 grant cycles of its Community Impact and Youth Advisory Council grants.

The deadline for both grant opportunities is Jan. 15. All nonprofit agencies with a 501(c)(3) IRS designation, schools, churches (for non-religious purposes), and government agencies in the counties of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties are invited to apply.

Community Impact Grants are for a broad range of projects and programs. The maximum grant request amount is $5,000.

Youth Advisory Council Grants are for projects benefiting youth younger than 18. The maximum request amount for YAC Grants is $2,500.

Applications are available at the Community Foundation website (cfnem.org) through their Online Grants Portal.
