Lions Club marks 95 years

ALPENA — On Tuesday, June 29, the Alpena Lions Club gathered to observe the anniversary of “95 years of service” to Northeast Michigan and the Alpena community. The event was emceed by Alpena Lions Club President Bernie Lamp III. The event was well-attended by Lions Club members and distinguished representatives from District Region 11E2 encompassing Northeast Michigan.

Retiring District Governor, Rod Leathers, Central Lake Lions Club, complimented the Alpena Lions for their continuous service to the Alpena community and Northeast Michigan. Incoming District Governor, Bill Gaines, Oscoda Lions Club, thanked the Alpena Lions Club for their dedicated service. He also issued a challenge for the Alpena Lions to outsell the Oscoda Lions next year in the Lions of Michigan Service Foundation “Sight and Hearing Sweepstakes.” Dave Zeller, former District Governor and Alpena Lions member, accepted the challenge on behalf of the Alpena Lions Club. Also in attendance lending her support to the Alpena Lions and representing Region 11E2 was Vice District Governor Jill Drury.

Concluding the night’s event was a special presentation of the “Melvin Jones Fellowship Award” to retiring Lions member Mike Hamilton. Mike was recognized with this prestigious award for his many years of devoted service to the Alpena Lions Club.
