VFW Auxiliary meeting well-attended

HILLMAN — The VFW Auxiliary 2356 held their monthly meeting on May 4, with President Thomas Brown calling the meeting to order. The group was so pleased to see attendance back up to 17 members.

The business at hand was to get the new year started and familiarize the chairmen with their chairmanships. The auxiliary was able to get a couple of new people this year, and thanks them for stepping up to the plate and helping out. It gets easier as time goes on.

The District 13 meeting was discussed under old business. Under new business, V.J. Day set up and programs were discussed as well as the Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen and Patriotic art scholarships. Watch for posters that will be put out in both Atlanta and Hillman. The group would love to get the Atlanta School involved as well as Hillman. These scholarships are awesome for grades 9-12 in Voice of Democracy and grades 6-8 in the Patriot Pen essay contests.

Voice of Democracy theme is “America: Where will we go from here?” Patriot Pen is “How can I be a good American?” More details will be included in another article.

The meeting was closed according to the ritual. The next meeting will open at the sound of the gavel at 6 p.m. on June 8.
