Martin Luther King Jr. Committee Discussion Series continues June 2

The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee is continuing its discussion series at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 with the book “Looking Like the Enemy: My Story of Imprisonment in Japanese American Internment Camps” by Mary Matsuda Gruenewald.

The author, at 16 years old, was evacuated with her family to an internment camp for Japanese Americans, along with 110,000 other people of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast. She faced an indefinite sentence behind barbed wire in crowded, primitive camps.

Join the Zoom discussion of this book led by Sandra Pilgrim Lewis, a member of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The books are available at the United Way of Northeast Michigan office at 108 Water St., Alpena. Check out the book, read it and join us for the discussion. Or view Mary Matsuda Gruenwald talking about her memoir at c-span.org. To register for this discussion, email abelovedcommunity.alpena@gmail.com. The Zoom link will be sent by return email.
