HILLMAN — VFW Auxiliary 2356 of Hillman was called to order on Feb. 2, 2021 by the President Tom Brown, with 14 members in attendance.

The auxiliary thanks the members for attending.

Business was taken care of with a donation going to Tunnel 2 Towers, Valentine Cheer bags going to Medilodge, Hillman’s Haven and area residents who are alone. This is done with the hope of cheering those who are alone during this pandemic — these are tough times on everyone, especially those living alone.

An update was given on the Lorraine LaPorte embezzlement case by Linda Prosser.

The Gold Star Family was rescheduled for Feb. 21 at 12:30 p.m. at the Hall. The auxiliary has three families who are Gold Star Families and the auxiliary will be in contact with them. Due to COVID-19, the auxiliary must restrict each invited member to one more family member only.

“We regret this but times are what they are and we must abide by the rules,” a press release stated.

The Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen and Teacher of the Year was also rescheduled for March 11. The auxiliary will be notifying the school to please send a note home with students that participated. Notes will be prepared for the students.

“We here again are asking parents to keep the attendance to parents and student,” the release noted.

The altar was draped for Nancy Haeger who has gone to her heavenly home. She will be missed greatly and a huge thank-you to Jackie McIntire for leading the group in “Nearer My God to Thee.” He did a great job.

The auxiliary also set in motion to deliver female products to a Female Woman’s Veteran Shelter.

A report was given by Judi Brown on the Mid-Winter VFW Michigan Post and Auxiliary Conference held on Zoom Saturday, Jan. 30.

“We were pleased to hear that our auxiliary’s Buddy Poppy made by Mary Brown was awarded first place,” the release said.

The auxiliary thanks Mary.
