SUNRISE SIDE BULLETIN BOARD

MOCA plans for holidays; sends donations for children

On Oct. 20, the Auxiliary to the Military Order of the Cooties, Pup Tent 96, held their regular meeting, with seven members in attendance. Fines were declared and paid, and minutes and the treasurer’s report were read and approved as read. No applications for membership were received, but the group keeps hoping VFW Auxiliary members will want to join them.

Sunrise Mission sent a letter requesting help with Thanksgiving dinners. It was voted to send money for 15 turkey dinners. ACC sent a letter to MOCA scholarship chairman, Barb LaMay, thanking the group for its support for the 2020-2021 scholarship year and to inform the group that Kayla Dickinson was awarded their nursing scholarship for the 2018-2019 term. In-district tuition is $4,710 and out-of-district is $7,110. Every little bit helps.

Apparently there will be no VFW National Home for Children Cooties Christmas party this year, but they are asking for donations to make it possible to buy the children presents. It was voted on to send a donation. Grand President Josephine Miller sent a card thanking the group for its hospitality during her visit here last month. The card was read by the secretary.

The Auxiliary received a Certificate of Recognition for outstanding donation to the Sarah Ducharme Scholarship Program.

An audit was performed prior to the Oct. 20 meeting. One Year Trustee Barb Mouthaan read the audit report. It was voted to accept this report as read.

The group received a generous check from the M.O.C. men’s bingo.

There was nothing further to come before this meeting. President Roxann Buchler declared the meeting closed. Next month’s meeting will be on Nov. 17.

The 50/50 winners were Michael Stone and Barb LaMay. The “Pot” winner was Agnes Wendt.

Mich. Alzheimer’s events planned online this year

Two events are planned in October by the Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter: Mitten on a Mission and Chocolate Jubilee.

Mitten on a Mission is a challenge to Michigan residents to collectively walk 190,000 steps to recognize the 190,000 Michiganders living with Alzheimer’s.

“We’re asking everyone to walk a mile — or at least 2,000 steps — in the shoes of someone battling Alzheimer’s and dementia for this worthy cause,” said Kristin Rossi, Alzheimer’s Association vice president of development.

The 36th annual Chocolate Jubilee will be on Saturday, offering participants the opportunity to purchase and send sweet treats to loved ones, enter to win a one-week stay for four at a beautiful condo in Siesta Key, Fla., and honor a loved one through the event’s Sweet Memories video segment.

The 2020 presentation will take place at CJ2020.givesmart.com after noon on Oct. 24 — and participants can send a sweet through the end of November, which is National Caregivers Month.
