Salvation Army to accept Christmas assistance applications

ALPENA COUNTY — The Salvation Army will be accepting applications for its annual Christmas gifts and food assistance program starting on Nov. 3.

Applications for qualifying low-income families will be taken on the following days and times: 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4; and noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5.

Applications can be submitted at The Salvation Army Church, 722 N. 2nd Ave., Alpena. Please use the parking lot door in back. The office phone number is 989-358-2769. The fax number is 989-354-5120.

All applicants need to bring the following:

1) Picture I.D. of applicant with Alpena County address.

2) Some form of I.D. for all others in household such as birth certificate, school I.D., Medicaid card, etc.

3) Proof of all income in the household. DHHS and/or Social Security benefits documentation. (Bridge Card no longer acceptable)

Qualifying families will receive a food basket with enough food for a holiday dinner and more, and gifts for children in the family newborn to 17 years old.
