AHS Class of 1952 reunion postponed

The Alpena High School Class of 1952 Reunion has been postponed until August 14, 2021 because of the coronavirus. It had originally been scheduled for this August.

Hillman VFW met; V-J Day still set

The Hillman VFW Post 2356 met at 6 p.m. on July 2 for its regular meeting. Eight officers and a total of nine members were present. The group is still planning its 75th annual V-J Day celebration on Aug. 8, 2020. The parade will start at noon with food and music available. Fireworks will be at dusk. Breakfast will be available that morning at the Post for participants.

Last year the V-J Day fireworks cost $3,000. This year, the VFW ordered a $3,500 show. Donations are greatly appreciated. Make sure any donations are marked “V-J Day Fireworks.”

At this time the group is not having its Friday night fish fry. That will be restarted once the restrictions on six-feet social distancing are lifted. The club sells polyester 3’x5′ American flags for $25. Any qualified veteran looking for a home is welcome to join the VFW, as they are always seeking new members.Medical supplies are available for loan. Call Marv at 989-255-2072 or Wayne at 989-255-4412. Anyone with medical items no longer needed is encouraged to call so they can continue to upgrade their stock of available rental items.For Post hall rentals, call Bob Hunt at 989-657-1162.

The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.

D & D online game at Alpena library

Alpena County Library is offering virtual Dungeons and Dragons, an online role playing game, from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, for ages 13 and up.

This event is hosted by the library and Phineas Imhoff. Players of all experience levels are welcome and should be willing to work together in this collaborative role playing game. This game will contain fantasy violence, very mild horror elements, but content will remain age-appropriate, and tools will be provided for players to feel safe and voice any concerns about the content.
