Friends Together hosting drive-thru fundraiser June 26

Friends Together has kicked off a new, focused effort to replace its vans. Each month their drivers travel more than 4,000 miles to help neighbors with cancer get to and from their lifesaving treatment appointments.

The odometer on the Friends Together van is “frighteningly close to 200,000 miles,” a press release stated.

To raise money, Friends Together is hosting a drive-thru fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 26, at the center, 105 Prentiss St. in Alpena.

Volunteers will be collecting donations as you drive through or stop to purchase some concession items by Cookin’ For A Cause. A magnetic awareness ribbon will be handed out to all who donate.

Gratefully accepted forms of donation include cash, checks, and credit or debit cards.

Hearing the news that you have cancer is tough enough. But when you realize treatment includes daily appointments at the cancer center over a five-to-eight-week period, the reality of the cost sets in. Plus, you may not feel up to driving yourself. This is where Friends Together comes in.
