ALL programs set for this week

The Association of Lifelong Learners will host a variety of online programs this week.

These programs are open to the public. Just send an email to ALL@AlpenaCC.edu to receive connection information.

Programs are conducted using the Zoom application.

Today at at 2 p.m. — “Line Dancing”

Debbie Kerr has been teaching line dancing classes for six years, four years for the ALL group. With the current stay-at-home orders, she has switched to teaching virtual classes. If you have been dancing for years or would like to give line dancing a try, this is the class for you! Wear some comfortable shoes and have a water bottle nearby and tune in for this class. This will be a weekly program until we can meet in-person.

Tuesday at 2 p.m. — “Finding the Joy in Dying (Part Two)”

In June of last year, Virginia and Keith Titus received the news that she had stage IV cancer, with a life expectation of six months to a year-and-a-half. This program will talk about the way they have found joy in their life despite of (and because of) that diagnosis.

Ginny Titus, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has lived in Alpena since the mid-1970s. She taught dance in her studio here and at Thunder Bay Theatre, which she operated with her husband, Keith, until 1988. In 1994, she entered seminary, and, in 1997, was ordained in the United Church of Christ. She served several churches in Southwest Michigan and spent nine years in South Dakota on Pine Ridge Reservation working in solidarity with the Lakota people through RE-MEMBER, a nonprofit she and her husband created. She most recently served as pastor sat the UCC church in Atlanta, Michigan.

The Rev. Keith Titus, a lifelong resident of Alpena, has served as an instructor at Alpena Community College, as a county commissioner, and as the founder and director of Thunder Bay Theatre. He was ordained in the UCC in 1997, served several Grand Rapids area churches until he founded and served as Executive Director of RE-MEMBER in South Dakota.

Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. — “Focus on Fun Camera Club”

This is an informal gathering of people interested in photography and videos. There is a wide range of skill sets, but members are always willing to share their photos and photography experiences along with assisting you with basic photographic concepts. So feel free to stop in (virtually) and see what people are doing with photography or show the group your latest shots and experiences!

Thursday at 11 a.m. — “New Faces, New Opportunities: India 2020 ”

Before the coronavirus shutdown, Mark and Nancy Kinney kept their agreement to spend five weeks in India in January and February. Sixteen days of that time was devoted to Unitarians and others in Meghalaya. Join them to encounter those new faces and new opportunities for teachers, students, friends, mentors, and many more.

Nancy and Mark Kinney have visited a number of places in the world and are longtime ALL Members.

Friday at 9:55 a.m. –” Yoga Online!”

ALL Zoomers have been invited to participate in an ongoing on-line yoga class with Jane Mayle. The class is geared toward all levels, everyone just does what their body is allowing them to do. There is no specialized instruction given during the Zoom sessions. Each participant is responsible for ensuring their own well-being during the program. Please sign-in by 9:55a.m.

Jane Mayle attended yoga instructor training in 2012, which led her eventually to teach basic yoga at the Lost Woods Club Lodge and chair yoga at the Alcona Senior Center in Lincoln. Both of these programs will resume when the lockdown is lifted in Alcona County.
