Longbeards meeting, banquet canceled

Alpena Longbeards will not be having their April 7th meeting due to the restrictions in place through April 30th. Also, the banquet scheduled for the 18th of April has been canceled for the same reason.

As of now, the scheduled seed distribution day for members only is May 9th. Those who did not get their seed choices sent in, please do so by mid-April. No money is due until the seed is received.

UAW retired workers meetings canceled

Northeast Michigan UAW Retired Workers Alpena Council’s April 1 monthly meeting is canceled. Any further monthly meetings will be canceled until restaurants are opened. When meetings resume, a notice will appear in the newspaper.

Chairman Nick Williams assures retirees that nothing has changed with benefits, including BCBS, Davis Vision, Express Scripts and all others.

Chamber lunch April 30

As of Tuesday, the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce’s Good Mid-Day Alpena Lunch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. lunch, followed by a noon program on April 30, at Ramada Alpena, 1000 U.S.-23 North.

The program will be about Corporate Social Responsibility and Your Business. The cost is $10 per person and registration is required in advance to info@alpenachamber.com or 989-354-4181. This is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Mental Health training

As of Tuesday, a Mental Health First Aid course is still scheduled for April 27 and 28 at First Presbyterian Church Social Hall. From 5:30 to 9:45 p.m. each night, participants 18 and older will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns in adults. A five-step action plan to help adults in both crisis and non-crisis situations will be presented. Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery, resilience, and the belief that people experiencing these challenges can and do get better.
