FFNM awards $1,500 each to Vietnam vets, senior center

ALPENA — First Federal of Northern Michigan (FFNM) Legacy Foundation recently presented a $1,500 grant to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 583 as one of their fourth quarter grant recipients. The $1,500 will be used to purchase food and toys for their Operation Holidays program.

The Vietnam Veterans have been providing advocacy and assistance to Vietnam Veterans and their families in Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle counties for 28 years. Each year, their Operation Holidays program strives to bring holiday cheer to approximately 800 families who are struggling financially by providing food for Thanksgiving and toys for children at Christmas.

First Federal of Northern Michigan (FFNM) Legacy Foundation recently presented a $1,500 grant to Alpena Area Senior Citizens Council, Inc. (Alpena Senior Citizens Center) as one of their fourth quarter grant recipients. The $1,500 will be used toward the purchase and installation of televisions and a camera which will improve the visual and hearing capacity of programs offered at the center.

The Alpena Senior Citizens Center is considered the resource hub for Alpena County seniors and caregivers. Programs at the center include in-home services, supportive services, health and fitness support, bi-monthly educational sessions by professionals on various topics, meals, and recreational and social events.
