Art in the Loft announces March culinary and art classes

Budding artists and chefs of all ages can choose from a variety of classes at Art in the Loft in March.

Scholarships are available at artintheloft.org. Registration can be completed online. For more information, call 989-356-4877.

Classes are listed below.

¯ Sunday, March 1: Ramen with Chef Reid — From 3 to 5 p.m., join Chef Reid Krebs as he walks you through the techniques for making homestyle Ramen. Cost is $45, for ages 16 and up.

¯ Friday, March 6: Corkscrew & Canvas — From 6 to 8 p.m., come and paint in an encouraging atmosphere, sip a drink and let your creative juices flow in this step-by-step painting class. Cost is $35, for ages 21 and up.

¯ Saturdays, March 7 and 21: smART (Saturday Morning Art) — From 10 to 11:30 a.m. children ages 5 and up can explore the elements of art, and take home a completed work of their own art. Cost is $15 per child.

¯ Saturdays, March 7 and 21: Brushes & Basics — From noon to 1:30 p.m., students ages 17 and up can learn the basics for $15 per student. Designed with the beginning art student in mind, each session covers basic skills and techniques in an encouraging atmosphere using a variety of media. All supplies are included. This week will focus on the fun and fluid watercolor.

¯ Sunday, March 8: Creative Awakening Yoga and Art Experience — From 2 to 5 p.m., join Paige Allia, yoga teacher and musician, and Sarah Bedford, creative arts teacher, to help you unleash your potential, body and mind. Bring a yoga mat or towel. Cost is $65 for ages 15 and up.

¯ Thursday, March 12: Irish Cuisine — From 6 to 8 p.m., join Declan and Lindsay Higgins for an evening surrounded by Irish culture, friends and food. Learn to make brown soda bread and a classic shepard’s pie. Cost is $45 for ages 16 and up.

¯ Saturday, March 14: Kids in the Kitchen — From 10 a.m. to noon, join Miss Val for a fun hands-on culinary experience. Children ages 5 up will learn basic rules of the kitchen and prepare a variety of treats. Cost is $20.

¯ Thursday, March 19: Art and Artifacts — From 6 to 8 p.m., enjoy this ARTWave event, a partnership between Art in the Loft and Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Archaeologists use illustration as a documentation technique and to bring artifacts to life for those who can’t see them firsthand. Join archaeologists from TBNMS and art instructors from Art in the Loft for this exciting new interactive illustrating experience. Cost is $50, which includes all supplies.
