Bridge results announced

Last week’s Alpena Duplicate Bridge winners were Linda Clegg and Marcy Sherman in first place, Fred Woolman and Eve Phillips in second place, and Mark Wolshon and Ron Young in third place.

The group meets at 12:45 p.m. on Mondays at First United Methodist Church, on the corner of 1st Avenue and Ripley Boulevard. All bridge players are welcome. For more information, call 989-354-2306.

ALL events this week

From 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Association of Lifelong Learners will hear from the Rev. Bob Case, pastor emeritus from First Congregational United Church of Christ, speaking on “Conservative and Progressive Christianity.”

On Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to noon at M. Briggs Center, ALL can learn how to play bridge or refresh your game. ALL will gather for lunch at noon at Thunder Bay River Restaurant, 1315 W. Chisholm St. Invite a friend, but let the ALL office know at 989-358-7207. ALL Camera Club meets from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at M. Briggs Center on the third Wednesday of each month.

On Thursday, ALL can make birthday cards for an adult and a child, led by Meg Devers, who has been making creative home-designed cards for 15 years. She will share her supplies in this class from 1 to 3 p.m. at M. Briggs Center.

Alcona Book Club Tues.

The Alcona Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Harrisville branch of Alcona County Library. The selection for January is “Us Against You” by Fredrik Backman. Call 989-724-6796.

Library board to meet

The Alcona County Library Board will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Harrisville branch.

Food Pantry Wednesday

Sunrise Community Food Pantry will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hubbard Lake Bible Church, 13508 Hubbard Lake Road. It is on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. For more information, call the church at 989-727-3443.

Veterans coffee hour

Alpena Veterans Coffee Hour is from 9 to 10 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, 500 W. Fletcher St., Alpena.

Lab retirees luncheon

MidMichigan (ARMC) laboratory retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Mango’s Tequila Bar for their monthly luncheon.

Power of Parenting workshop Tuesday

At Tuesday’s Power of Parenting workshop, Lee Fitzpatrick will show participants ways to build their connections with other parents and community resources through social media. Fitzpatrick coordinates the Facebook page of Alpena Public Schools and for Alpena Parents, whose goal is to support parents with information on parenting, events, activities, services and resources.

Building trusting relationships and feeling respected and appreciated helps people feel confident and empowered to give back to others. The free 90-minute presentation takes place at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Media Center at Thunder Bay Junior High School.

Registration by calling 989-356-3880 is requested by noon Monday. A limited number of childcare slots for children ages 1-10 are available.

The upcoming Feb. 18 workshop features Kelly Mowrey of NEMCSA Early Headstart discussing the child developmental stages and parenting strategies that match.
