LWV events today

The League of Women Voters of Northeast Michigan invites anyone interested to a book club discussion of “What You Should Know About Politics But Don’t,” by Jessamyn Conrad, at 11 a.m. today at Hungry Hippie in the Alpena Mall. Lunch and an informal discussion of current issues and topics of interest will follow the book event.

Senior lunch Sunday

Alpena Senior Citizens Center will host Sunday Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with breakfast frittata, biscuits and gravy, and strawberry shortcake. The cost is a suggested donation of $3.50 per senior 60 and up, and cost of $7 for those under age 60.

Taro the monkey visits Neiman’s on Sunday

Join Taro the Library Monkey on his next adventure from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Neiman’s Family Market. This time, kids and their stuffed animals will explore Neiman’s Family Market, participating in a shopping cart race and learning how popcorn is made. After the fun, kids will create a short book about the day’s activities with Taro. This event is free to children ages 5 to 9, but registration is required by calling 989-356-6188. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bullet journaling workshop for teens Sun.

Alpena County Library hosts a Bullet Journaling Workshop from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday for ages 12 to 18, led by local bullet journaling enthusiast Kingsli Kraft. Materials will be provided in this free workshop. Registration is not required, but participants should arrive promptly at 3 p.m. Call Sara at 989-356-6188 with questions.

Parkinson’s group Mon.

The Alpena Area Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 167 Ripley Blvd. For more information, call Judy Poli at 989-370-6854.

Teen cancer group Mon.

A new cancer support group, Teens Together, meets from 3 to 4 p.m. each Monday at Friends Together. For more information, call 989-356-3231.

Quilt guild meets Mon.

White Pines Quilt Guild meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 201 N. 2nd St. in Harrisville. Visitors are welcome to attend these meetings. Call Judy at 989-335-4283 with questions.
