January/February classes for kids, teens and adults at Art in the Loft

Art in the Loft is offering classes in January and February for kids, teens and adults. Scholarships are available.

Jan. 18, Feb. 1 and 15

From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. is smART (Saturday Morning Art) for kids ages 5 and older, for $15 per student. Each session is sure to entertain, and each student walks away with a completed work of art. Students will explore the elements of art, usng a variety of media. The end product will be full of visual interest and packed with a colorful punch.

Thursday, Jan. 9

Astrology and Art, for ages 16 and up, will be from 6 to 8 p.m., for $45 per student. Local artist Kristin Neumann, your astrological sign, and the stars, will guide you in this personal yet interactive workshop. Participants will create a work of art centered around their own astrological sign and will end with an astrological reading from Neumann.

Saturday, Jan. 25

Kids in the Kitchen for ages 5 and up is 10 a.m. to noon, for $20 per student. Cook up some excitement with an engaging hands-on culinary experience. Students will learn some basic rules of the kitchen and prepare a variety of foods that they will taste after all their hard work.

Saturday, Feb. 1

Kids and Cookies is from noon to 1:30 p.m. for ages 5 and up. Learn the art of cooking decorating with Hannah Matzke, owner of Cookies by Hannah. We will go step-by-step while learning all the tips and tricks of the decorating process. Students will leave with a dozen of their own edible masterpieces. The cost is $25 per student.

Sunday, Feb. 2

Cookie Decorating with Cookies by Hannah is from 3 to 5 p.m., for ages 13 and up, for $35 per student.Learn the Art of cooking decorating with Hannah Matzke, owner of Cookies by Hannah. Students will leave with a dozen of their own edible masterpieces.

Sunday, Feb. 9

POP Art Pets is from 3 to 5 p.m., for ages 15 and up. Give your pets a pop of color. Submit a photo of your beloved pet by Feb. 1, and Art in the Loft will do the conversion, and you will be the artist. Utilizing bright colors, under the guidance of local artist, Danyeal Dorr, your pets will become the masterpiece on your walls as well as the star in your family. The cost for this class is $50 per student.

Saturday, Feb. 22

Kitchen Explorers for preteens and teens is from 10 a.m. to noon. This culinary experience is targeted for mature kids ages 10 and older. Utilizing a “Chopped” style theme, students will be separated into groups of two and given a mystery basket full of ingredients and a step-by-step recipe. Adult guidance will be given. Once the meals are complete, all the students will sample all the recipes created that day. The cost is $25 per student.

Saturday, Feb. 22

Let’s Make Marmalade! This class is from 3 to 6 p.m., for $45 per student. Jam making is a lost art, and marmalade is an even greater mystery to home cooks. Join Betsy Lehndorff as she teaches us her blue-ribbon Orange Marmalade recipe know for its astonishing flavor — rich and sweet, without any trace of bitterness. You will get hands-on guidance in creating your own marmalade to take home. Come and enjoy an evening of creating, taste-testing and gaining bragging rights for life. We will be sampling this marmalade on ice cream, in coffee, in brownies and cookies and more. Students need to bring their own zester.
