ALPENA — True North Radio Network and the APlex are teaming up to offer TNRN’s Winter Concert Series, starting tonight with the 1980s tribute band “Totally.” Many other concerts and comedians are also slated for this winter at the APlex.

Doors open at 8 p.m. for the New Year’s Eve party, with music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Tonight’s event will feature a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres, a photo booth and pizza served at 10 p.m.

“Between us and True North Radio Network, we put on these events to get people through the winter,” said Norm Sommerfeld, APlex manager. “It’s a very inexpensive way for folks to come out and enjoy an evening of live music.”

Sommerfeld said he works with Darrel Kelly, manager of True North Radio Network, to present these concerts to the community.

He explained how he finds the talent that comes to Alpena to perform.

“I use a booking house out of Toronto,” Sommerfeld said. “I also go to conventions, where 20 bands play for 20 minutes each so you can see what they look like onstage.”

Additional upcoming APlex concerts will include a Bon Jovi tribute band, a Creedence Clearwater Revival/John Fogerty tribute band, a Van Halen tribute band, and more. Admission is $5 per person.
