Hillman VFW needs members

The Hillman VFW Post 2356 met on Dec. 6, with 10 members present. The group had a long discussion about how to help with its ailing members. Some are in great need financially and physically.

A lot of clubs are having trouble getting members and some VFW Posts are closinng. Any qualified veterans looking for a home are urged to contact the VFW at 989-742-3670, or by calling any of the members listed below.

The group still holds its Friday night fish fry, but there will not be one this Friday because of the Christmas holiday. The group needs volunteers who are able to stand for three hours for its fish fry, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Fridays. You do not have to be a member to help with the fish fry, which features cod, walleye, and shrimp each Friday, with to-go meals available.

The VFW sells polyester 3 foot by 5 foot American flags for $25.

Medical supplies are available for loan. Call Marv at 989-733-0838 or Wayne at 989-255-4412. Anyone with medical items no longer needed, please call so they can continually upgrade.

The next regular meeting of the Hillman VFW Post 2356 will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Messy Church at Trinity Jan. 2

Trinity Episcopal Church invites families to Messy Church from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at 124 E. Washington Ave., Alpena.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. The church follows APS school cancellations.

No January UAW meeting

Northeast Michigan UAW Retired Workers Alpena Council has canceled its January meeting because the Wednesday in January is New Year’s Day. Their next meeting will be Feb. 5.

NLA skating

Holiday skating is $5 per person at Northern Lights Arena on these days and times:

¯ Thursday — 4 to 5:50 p.m. (Glow ice skating).

¯ Friday — noon to 2:20 p.m. (Glow).

¯ Saturday — 5 to 7:20 p.m. (Glow).

¯ Sunday — 4 to 6:20 p.m. (Ice skating).

ARMC lunch

The MidMichigan (ARMC) monthly retirees luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 at Hunan Chinese Restaurant.
