Santa Claus and

gingerbread downtown

Santa Claus will be visiting with children from noon to 3 p.m. at his cottage in Culligan Plaza today and next Saturday, offering cookies and hot chocolate to visitors. For more information, visit the DDA’s website at downtownalpenami.com/winter.

Entries in the Downtown Gingerbread Competition will be on display today through Dec. 21 inside downtown businesses. The public can go in and vote for their favorite entry at any of the display locations. Call the Alpena DDA at 989-356-6422.

Quilt guild meets Mon.

White Pines Quilt Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 201 N. 2nd St. in Harrisville.

Santa to visit Onaway VFW Post Dec. 21

Santa Claus will visit the Onaway VFW Post 5857 from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21. Refreshments, hot dogs and candy will be provided.

Amateur radio meeting

The Alcona County Amateur Radio Group meeting, open to the public, will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the EMS/EOC building, 2600 East M-72. Anyone interested in Amateur Radio emergency and public service communications is invited to attend. Free refreshments will be served.

Used book sale Friday

MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena Volunteers will host a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the hospital lobby.

Association of Lifelong Learners will have a special program on Tuesday. Personalized Medication Compounding, is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at M. Briggs Center. Dr. Kristine Spicer, PharmD, at LeFave Pharmacy, will discuss “compounding,” the personalized preparation of drugs to meet the unique needs of patients. This may be done to change the medication from pill to liquid or salve, to avoid an allergy, or to adjust dosage, etc. Learn how medication preparation has evolved and the pharmacist’s role in assisting patients today.
