The Alpha Xi Chapter of the Michigan State Organization of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society recently presented books to the Women’s Health Unit at Mid-Michigan Hospital in Alpena. These books will be given to the parents of newborns at the hospital to encourage them to read to their child. Pictured above in the center, new parents Erik and Rachel Wong and their son Sawyer are presented with a new book.

The Alpha Xi Chapter in Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle works to support teachers, students entering the field of education, and the education of children in our schools. Their Literacy Committee has obtained funding from the Gerber Foundation to purchase these books for families.

Pictured below in attendance at the presentation are Chuck Sherwin, president of MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena; Ashley Burke, unit tech; Jessica McEwen, manager of the Women’s Health Unit; staff of the Women’s Health Unit; and Ann Hardesty, Julie Usher and Mary Ann Mulka, members of Alpha Xi. Missing from the picture are Jane Sylvester and Mary Kay Griswold, members of the Alpha Xi Literacy Committee.
