Anita Harmon book events to benefit humane society

News Photo by Darby Hinkley Anita Harmon poses with her children’s book, “SAM: Sweet Adorable Mutt.”

She wrote and illustrated the book for her grandkids, but she hopes to sell enough copies to give proceeds to the Huron Humane Society.

Anita Harmon will have two book signings this week, offering copies of her colorful children’s book “SAM: Sweet Adorable Mutt,” about the beloved dog she had for many years.

The first book signing is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Suite Salon Spa in Harborside Center. She will have another book signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Turn the Page Bookstore in Thunder Bay Shopping Center.

Harmon is a retired art teacher from Alpena Public Schools.

“The book is about our dog Sam,” Harmon explained. “It’s a tribute to all dogs. All animals are in need of love and kindness.”

The book is based on true events.

“I dedicated it to my grandchildren,” she said, referring to Tommy and Billy Harmon of Bend, Oregon. “I did it from the dog’s point of view.”

She has a heart for animals, and wants to give back to the community.

“I’d like to give a percentage of the proceeds to the humane society,” she said.
