Association of Lifelong Learners classes offered in addition to regular weekly programming are listed below. Unless otherwise noted, courses are at Alpena Community College’s M. Briggs Center. To register, call 989-358-7207.

¯ Today: Miniature horse training with Tanya Comfort is from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

¯ Thursday: Journal-writing with Mary Ann Krajnik Crawford, Carey Rapin, and Carol O’Connor, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

¯ Saturday: Watercolor class at the newly opened Hubbard Lake Nature Preserve with artist-in-residence Sarah Tule, from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $35, for paint, brushes and canvas. The preserve is at 720 Holiday Inn Rd., Hubbard Lake.

¯ Tuesday, Oct. 8: Dr. Lessard, retired teacher and professor of literature and sociology, talks about the history of the founding of America from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

PI health fair today

A health fair is today at Presque Isle Harbor Association Clubhouse, with flu shots offered from noon to 2 p.m. by LeFave Pharmacy. A Medicare enrollment presentation will be at 2 p.m., and Veterans Administration benefits Q & A and informational session at 3 p.m. Bring insurance information.

‘Unplanned’ at RCT

The anti-abortion movie “Unplanned” is showing at 7 p.m. Friday at Rogers City Theater, with free admission.

“Unplanned” is a 2019 American drama based on the memoir by Abby Johnson. It follows Johnson’s life as a clinic director for Planned Parenthood and her subsequent transition to anti-abortion activism.

Free horror movie nights

Free horror movies are showing at 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays in October at B Royal Movie Theater in downtown Alpena, located inside Bob’s Bullpen. For listings and details, call 989-356-9558, or visit Bob’s Bullpen on Facebook.

ACC Community Ed classes this week

Alpena Community College Community Education presents Intermediate Excel with Cathy Abraham from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, and Oct. 9 and 16. In this three-session class, learn advanced features such as charts, utilizing multiple worksheets, advanced formulas, data filters, and sorting information. Prerequisite is Beginning Excel or equivalent. The fee is $70.

ACC CE offers Light Painting Photography with Tom Sherrill-Mix from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, and again on Oct. 10 and 17. In this three-session class, learn to create amazing images with light painting — making light trails, highlighting parts of your image and other techniques. Students will need to bring a camera (with manual settings), cable release, tripod and a flashlight. The fee for this class is $75.

ACC CE presents Seeing Comedy in Life to Avoid Anxiety, Depression and Anger with Joe Garant from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In this class, you’ll explore negative emotions, external circumstance, and how we choose to perceive a situation. Learn about irrational thoughts we engage in that make us miserable and how to apply positive emotions. The fee for this class is $15.

Senior Center events

Alpena Senior Citizens Center hosts Bonnie Goff with MidMichigan Health Center-Alpena presenting the Importance of Good Breast Health at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Then dinner is from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by entertainment with Carole & Company from 6 to 8 p.m. Dinner is $3.50 suggested donation for 60 and up, or $7 cost for those under 60. The menu includes oven blackberry dijon chicken, mashed potatoes, carrots and peaches.

Good Mid-Day Thurs.

Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce presents Good Mid-Day Alpena, sponsored by Lappan Agency and Auto Owners Insurance, on Thursday. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., and the program, Connecting Education and Business, is from noon to 1 p.m. at Art in the Loft, 109 N. Second Ave., 3rd floor. Cost is $10 per person and registration is required by calling 989-354-4181 or emailing info@alpenachamber.com.

Founders Club to meet

The Founders Society of the Besser Museum Book Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the 19th Hole to discuss “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens. You do not have to be a Founder to participate.

Classes at Art in the Loft

Brooke Fisher from Brookie’s Goodies teaches Cake by Kids: Creepy Cakes from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Art in the Loft. The cost is $45 per student, for ages 6 and up.

Then on Sunday, Mary and Justin Christensen-Cooper teach the culinary class Buddha Bowls, featuring a healthy one-bowl meal with a grain base (noodles, rice or quinoa), your choice of hearty ingrediants and topped with a delicious sauce. This class, for ages 16 and up, is from 2 to 4 p.m., for $60 per student.

Garden Club in RC

The Alpena Garden Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Kortman’s Restaurant in Rogers City.

Breastfeeding group

Alpena County Breastfeeding Support Group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at ACC’s Besser Technical Center Room 107D (next to the Lumberjack Shack). This is a free group, and registration is not required. Call Heather Heath, breastfeeding peer counselor, at 989-255-4730.

Cloud class Monday

A computer class, Using the Cloud, is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Alpena County Library, for $5 per person. Register by calling 989-356-6188, ext. 14.

Fixed income class Tues.

A financial workshop, Focus on Fixed Income, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Edward Jones, 123 E. Chisholm St. RSVP to 989-354-0220.

Bridge winners told

This week’s Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners are Gayle Nowak and Marge French in first, Beverley Rousseau and Marcy Sherman in second, and a tie for third between Loretta Reynolds and Connie Middleditch and Audrey Stevens and Linda Clegg. The group meets at 12:45 p.m. on Mondays at First United Methodist Church.
