TBT’s Let’s Talk tonight

It’s time for Thunder Bay Theatre’s fifth and final installment of their Let’s Talk Series for 2019, in association with Art in the Loft. This month’s topic is bullying and how to better prevent it. Come, listen, and share from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Art in the Loft.

Project Connect Thursday

Alpena Human Services Coordinating Council will be hosting Project Connect Alpena on Thursday at St. Bernard’s Friendship Room from 3:30 until 6 p.m.

The Project Connect Alpena event will feature free services and household supports for families in our area. Free haircuts, dental cleanings, and health screenings such as blood pressure checks will be offered. Personal hygiene products and/or household cleaning supplies sponsored by Hunters Harvest for Charity will be available while supplies last. Local nonprofits and service organizations will be on hand to explain programs and services available for families and veterans.

A free hot meal will be served to all who attend and free seasonal produce will be available to take home. (Please bring your own box or bag.)

“This Project Connect event is for anyone who can benefit from a little extra help — The elderly, the disabled, working families, caretakers or anyone needing to connect with community resources — all are welcome to attend. No proof of income is required,” said Alpena HSCC Chair, Malinda Amlotte.

OPC donations will be matched

Options Pregnancy Center recently raised $8,000 at its 4th Annual Night of Light Banquet. The goal was to raise $28,000, and a donor has offered a $10,000 matching donation if OPC is able to raise another $10,000 toward the purchase of a larger building, which would meet the fundraising goal of $28,000.

Humane Society event Saturday

The Huron Humane Society is participating in Bissell’s Empty the Shelter Event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Doors open at 10 a.m. for people who have pre-applied and have been pre-approved.

On Saturday, shelters across the nation are participating in the event, which allows adopters to take home a pet for a reduced fee of $25, while Bissell Pet Foundation picks up the remaining cost.

ALL ‘Bon Temps Rouler’ tonight

Association of Lifelong Learners presents “Bon Temps Rouler!” which is a Cajun French American phrase for “let the good times roll!” From 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, Don and Evelyn Londo will share their Louisiana music experiences plus their home cooked Cajun foods in this program. They have explored Cajun Country, around Lafayette, Louisiana for several years. Hear about the Arcadians and their forced journey from the early eastern Canadian/American shores to Louisiana, followed by a description of the culture and music that has captured that area.

The Londos will share their visit to the Cajun Music Hall of Fame in Eunice, La., and share their home-cooked Cajun food. Seating is limited to 30 people. Call 989-358-7207.

Halloween weekend in Harrisville

Harrisville State Park, 248 State Park Rd., is hosting Haunted Halloween Weekend Friday through Sunday, with kids’ games, a site decorating contest, trick-or-treating, a haunted hayride and a spooky haunted trail. Blue Water Rising, tacos at VFW

VFW Post 2496 at 2900 Connon St. in Alpena is hosting the country/rock band Blue Water Rising and an unlimited taco bar from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, for ages 21 and up. The band starts playing at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15. Call the VFW at 989-354-8021 for more information.

‘Aladdin’ at HL church Friday

“Aladdin” will be showing at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6891 Nicholson Hill Road, Hubbard Lake. This is a free community movie night. Bring a blanket or camping chair to sit on. Snacks will be provided by the Dorcas group.

Fire prevention open house Sat.

Alpena Charter Township Fire Department Southside and Northside stations are hosting a Kids’ Fire Prevention Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the station between Neiman’s Family Market and Taco Bell.

The event will feature a smoke house, face painting, bounce house, obstacle course, goodie bags and lunch while supplies last. At the same time, the department will hold another Fill The Boot at Neiman’s intersection to benefit the Musular Dystrophy Association.

Harrisville Fall Fest Saturday

Dragonfly Art Gallery is one of many businesses participating in the Harrisville Fall Festival downtown in the Richard’s Pharmacy parking lot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with live music, crafts, pumpkin painting, face painting, a magic show at noon, and more. Free tours of Cedar Brook Trout Farm 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and horse-drawn carriage rides at 11:30, 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. at 3rd Street.

Poker pool fundraiser Saturday

A Texas Hold ‘Em Poker tournament hosted by Friends of Plaza Pool will be held Saturday at the APlex.

A mini-tournament is at 1 p.m. Register prior to 3:30 p.m. for the main tournament which starts at 4 p.m., with a $40 buy-in. Limit is 100 players. No early registration allowed. Food is provided at first break for a flat fee of $5. A cash bar will be available. For more information, call or text 989-464-6192.

Model Railroad meeting Saturday
