Renowned genealogist to speak Thursday

Dr. David McDonald

Northeast Michigan Genealogical Society will be hosting a nationally renowned speaker at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Alpena Community College.

Dr. David McDonald will present Land Records and New Yorkers to the Midwest. McDonald is a genealogist with more than 40 years of experience in the field. He is past president of the Board for Certification of Genealogists and vice president of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

He has lectured nationally on matters of genealogy and teaches at genealogy institutes in Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh and Georgia.

With the opening of the Erie Canal, movement through New York to the Midwest increased exponentially. Many of those migrants came to the upper Midwest, including Michigan and Wisconsin. We’ll consider the impacts of those expatriate New Yorkers on this area and the homes they left behind.

After his presentation, several expert genealogists will be available to consult with individuals.
