Library hosting digital marketing workshops

Alpena County Library is offering two upcoming Grow with Google Small Business Holiday Marketing Workshops. These are free programs at the library, 211 N. First Ave.

The first one is at noon this Wednesday, and the next is at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The library is partnering with Grow with Google to help the community learn digital skills, with two marketing workshops. At these workshops, individuals will learn the following:

¯ Wednesday: Spruce Up Your Holiday Marketing Plan — Dive into three ways to reach customers just in time for the holiday shopping season.

¯ Oct. 23: Drive a Holiday Rush for your Business — Kick start your customers’ holiday shopping season by marketing your business. Learn how to get in front of your customers and showcase what you offer using Google My Business, Google Ads, and more.

Pre-registration for these sessions is required. Register at https://smallbusiness.withgoogle.com/free-google-training/#!/ or on the Library’s Facebook Events page.

For more information visit the library’s website or call 989.356.6188 ext 25.

These workshops are the first of many planned with the new funding the library recently received to provide digital skills training.

The American Library Association (ALA) recently announced that the George N. Fletcher Public Library was selected to participate in Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, an initiative of ALA and the Public Library Association (PLA), sponsored by Grow With Google, the tech company’s economic opportunity initiative.

The library will use the funding to provide programs for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs.

“We are really excited to start exploring the new ways we can serve our community through these programs,” said Assistant Library Director Jessica Luther. “We’ve begun discussions with the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Development Authority to make sure we are maximizing the resources available.”

Future programs and trainings will focus on additional digital skills, such as getting a business online, practical digital skills, and more.

“Libraries have long been America’s gathering place for learning,” said Nicky Rigg, program manager for Digital Skills outreach at Google. “From learning new digital skills for the workplace, to creating a resume or growing your business online, people are going to libraries as resources for professional growth now more than ever. Grow with Google is excited to support library programs across the country to help ensure that economic opportunity exists for everyone.”

This program is funded by Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, which was created so that local libraries can combine their own program offerings with Grow with Google training materials to offer community workshops or other activities aimed at empowering small businesses to grow online or assisting job seekers to prepare for and find work.
