St. Paul’s Harvest Dinner today

St. Paul Lutheran Church will host its Harvest Dinner at 727 S. 2nd Ave. in Alpena, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today.

Tickets are $12 per adult, $6 per child under 10, and free for ages 6 and younger. For tickets, visit the church office (enter from Mirre Street), call 989-356-1658, or visit Neiman’s Family Market. The menu includes roast pork, homemade meatballs, kraut and Polish sausage, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, green beans, desserts and more.

Alcona amateur radio group tonight

Alcona County Amateur Radio Group will hold a meeting, open to the public, at 6:30 p.m. today at the EMS/EOC building at 2600 E. M-72. Anyone interested in Amateur Radio emergency and public service communications is invited to attend. Free refreshments will be provided. LWV Lunch Bunch on Friday

The League of Women Voters of Alpena County invites anyone interested to Lunch Bunch, an informal monthly discussion of current issues and other topics of interest.

The group will meet at noon on Friday at Mountain Inn, 5495 U.S.-23, Black River. Reservations are not necessary.

Alcona Humane sale Fri. & Sat.

Swiss steak dinner Friday

Alcona Masonic Lodge will host a Swiss steak dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the lodge, 316 E. Traverse Bay in Lincoln. The public is welcome, for $12 per adult, $6 per child 12 and younger. The menu includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, green beans or corn, a roll and dessert.

Car and Bike Show at Legion Hall

The American Legion and Alpena Biker Coalition will host a Car and Bike Show from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Hall, 1316 M-32 in Alpena. All money goes to help vets and kids.

The Country Poor Boys will play Friday night. The Birch Road Band will play Saturday afternoon, and North Country Burnouts will play Saturday night.

There will be a turkey fry, a beer tent with no cover charge for 21 and over after 9 p.m., and 50/50 raffles.

Morrell open house Friday

Thunder Bay Arts and Gallery will host an artist open house for September/October Featured Artist Susie Morrell from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Thunder Bay Arts Gallery, 127 W. Chisholm St. in Alpena.

Music at the Mill Friday

Brush Creek Mill hosts Music at the Mill on Friday, with musician sign-up starting at 6:30 p.m., and music at 7 p.m.

Sweat for a Cause Friday

Sweat for a Cause is at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Bay Urban Fitness, with Jerome Torres leading an Urban Mix workout to raise funds for the Polaski Foundation. A donation of at least $5 is appreciated, with all proceeds to this charity that spreads awareness about pancreatic cancer.

Hunters’ Roundup Saturday

The 10th Annual Deer Hunters’ Roundup is noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hubbard Lake, on the corner of Hubbard Lake and Nicholson Hill roads.

This free event features a Q & A with NEMI Quality Deer Management from noon to 3:30 p.m., raffles, children’s games from noon to 3 p.m., live music from The Damn Band, a bake sale, vendors from noon to 5 p.m., live auctions at 4 p.m., and more. Connie’s Cafe Fall Festival Sat.

Connie’s Cafe Fall Festival of Friends traditional turkey dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, for $10 per adult and $5 per child. All proceeds benefit Friends Together Cancer Center in Alpena. There will be a dessert bar, entertainment, drinks and raffles, with opportunities to win $2,000 or $500, surf and turf dinner, wine rack and wine, and a handmade quilt. Agent Orange Riders meet at noon on the third Saturday of each month at VFW Post 2496 at 2900 Connon St., Alpena.

Plaza Pool fundraiser Saturday

A euchre tournament fundraiser for the Plaza Pool will be held Saturday at the APlex, hosted by the Friends of the Plaza Pool. Doors open at 5 p.m., and play begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, with cash prizes to be awarded.

Snacks will be provided, and a cash bar will be available, as well as a 50/50 drawing and a $1 pool for the person with the high game.

AHS volleyball bottle drive Sunday

The Alpena High School volleyball teams will be hosting a bottle drive from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Huron Distributors, 509 Cavanaugh St., Alpena.

The girls will be going door to door, donations can be dropped off at the event site, or contact your favorite Wildcat to arrange for pickup.

Bridge winners announced

Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners this week were Gayle Nowak and Deanna Brege in first place, a tie for second place between the teams of Audrey Stevens and Linda Clegg and Fred Woolman and Eve Phillips, and in third place were Beverley Rousseau and Marcy Sherman.

The group meets at 12:45 p.m. Mondays at First United Methodist Church on the corner of 1st Avenue and Ripley Boulevard.
