VFW Aux. 2496 met on Aug. 13

President Gail Morrison presided over the Aug. 13 regular meeting of the VFW Auxiliary 2496 which was called to order at 6:10 p.m., with 17 members in attendance.

District 13 Senior Vice Judy Brown and her husband Tom from the Hillman post were introduced as guests.

Following opening ceremonies the minutes from last month were read and approved. There was one new application for life membership from Nancy Flasck and after a vote she was accepted.

The treasurer report was given and accepted pending audit. The July bingo report was read and a donation of $2,000 was presented to the Auxiliary.

Mary Talaska gave the audit report from the last quarter covering April thru June. The August and September committee reports were presented and information on reporting qualified activities to the district for credit were discussed.

Prizes and letters of congratulations have been awarded to last year’s winners of the P.P. and V.O.D. writing contest and information will be taken to the schools in September on how to participate in this year’s contest.

A donation of $100 was presented Aug. 8 to the Forgotten Eagles. Three members marched and paid tribute to four WWII veterans in Hillman at the VJ Day celebration Aug. 10.

The charter was draped for Lucille Bartreau and Patricia Adrian. Donations totaling $250 will be made to VA Hospitals, Camp Trotter and Tunnel 2 Towers.

Members were encouraged to attend the Fall Conference Sept. 26-28 at Boyne Highlands. Judy Brown presented the group with pointers on how to improve the organization and offered her assistance in achieving those goals.

After the closing prayer the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
