Black River Bridge Walk Aug. 31

The 16th Annual Black River Bridge Walk will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 31. Gather south of the bridge on Lake Shore Road, just south of Black River Road. There is plenty of parking.

Then at 1 p.m. is a co-ed ball game at the Township Park. There will also be a bake sale at St. Gabriel Church from 11:30 a.m. until the goodies are gone.

AHS Class of ’52 reunion held

Alpena High School Class of 1952 held its 67th reunion on Aug. 10 at the 19th Hole Restaurant, with 19 classmates and nine guests in attendance.

Everyone agreed that it was so enjoyable to reunite with classmates and guests that it should happen again next year. The date will be Aug. 8, 2020, at the same place.

Alcona Road Commission’s 100th

Alcona County Road Commission invites the public to join them in celebrating 100 years. A celebration is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at 301 North Lake St., Lincoln. Hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be provided.

There will be a 1900s Stockland Horse-drawn road grader and a 2019 John Deere Grader demonstration.

This celebration will take place 100 years to the day of the special election to establish a county road system in Alcona County, passing with 589 in favor and 322 against.

Alcona County Road Commission will meet at 2 p.m., prior to the celebration.

Bikers supporting kids with cancer

Agent Orange Riders presents Bikers Supporting Children with Cancer, on Saturday, Aug. 31, with registration at 9 a.m. at VFW Post 2496 in Alpena. Kickstands up at 10 a.m. The cost is $10 per bike, and $5 per passenger.

A pig roast will follow at 5 p.m., for $8 per plate. There will be a 50/50 drawing, a silent auction, and live entertainment. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Agent Orange Riders will donate all proceeds to the local Friends Together Children’s Cancer Fund.

UAW retired workers meet Sept. 4

The Northeast Michigan UAW Retired Workers Alpena Council will meet at 11 a.m. on Sept. 4 at the 19th Hole Restaurant. Lunch will be served at noon. Bring a donation of food for the needy.

Garden Club to meet Sept. 9

Alpena Garden Club will meet Sept. 9 at the 19th Hole. Social time starts at 11 a.m. and the meeting starts at 11:30 a.m.

NEMI Super Swap Sept. 13-14

The 2nd Annual Northeast Michigan Super Swap will be Sept. 13 and 14 at the Alpena County Fairgrounds.

Swap spots are $10 per day. Gates open at 8 a.m.

Admission is free to this event. Swap fees will support Alpena County Fairgrounds improvements.

Camping is available at the fairgrounds, for $23 per night, which includes swap fee. Registration is required.

No firearms allowed.

Stephen Siller 5K Sept. 14

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Alpena Bandshell, on the corner of State Avenue and Prentiss Street in Alpena.

“Run & Walk to honor our bravest,” a flyer states. “Follow the footsteps of 9/11 hero, firefighter Stephen Siller, to ensure that we never forget and honor the sacrifices of our first responders and military heroes.”
