The Alpena Community College Foundation is calling all golfers for the foundation’s annual Scramble for Scholarships. Since its inception in 1996, the Robert M. Granum Scramble for Scholarships has raised more than $386,000 providing hundreds of scholarships to assist students attending Alpena Community College.

This year’s event will be held Aug. 17 at 9 a.m. at River’s Edge Golf Club in Alpena. The tournament is a four-person best ball scramble where golfers of all skill levels can enjoy themselves. The entry fee is $90 per person and includes 18-holes of golf with a cart, beverages, lunch and snacks following the tournament. Golf packages to premier Michigan courses will be awarded to the first, second, third and fourth place teams, in addition to the best score for a mixed team, and prizes for several random place teams.

For the fourth consecutive year, Besser Company will serve as the tournament’s corporate sponsor. Golfers will have the opportunity to win a 2019 Buick Encore sponsored by Alpena Buick GMC, and $10,000 cash sponsored by Alpena Agency if they are lucky enough to make a hole-in-one at designated holes.

In addition, Top O’ Michigan Insurance is sponsoring a $1,000 putting contest.

More than 50 local businesses and individuals have supported the event through sponsorship and prize donations. Alpena Power Company and The Wartosky Group, LLC will be providing lunch for the golfers.
