Alpena Lions Club hears from Thunder Bay Theatre

Jeffrey Mindock, producing artistic director at Thunder Bay Theatre, was the speaker at the July 16 meeting of the Alpena Lions Club. Program chair for the meeting was Andy Lamp.

Mindock gave the club a brief overview of the upgrades that have been made to the theater to date. They continue raising funds for the next phases of the building’s renovations, which include the actual theater stage, seating and lighting, the apartments for the actors and actresses, and the exterior of the building.

Thunder Bay Theatre took their show on the road this summer and performed “Mamma Mia! In Concert” at Alpenfest in Gaylord. Alpenfest organizers thought the TBT performers did such a great job that they have been invited back for the next 10 years. TBT also had five showings of “Mamma Mia! In Concert” in Alpena to sold-out crowds.

This year they are working on a high school satellite office at the theater for students to go to during their free hours or after school. Students will be able to work on projects, etc. The schools are also helping the theater acquire funding for educational purposes. Several shows are held for students to attend during the school year. The field trips to the theater are heavily attended and highly appreciated.

Check out the TBT website for a listing of the shows they have booked for 2019, and the other community activities planned this summer and in the coming months. Their website is www.thunderbaytheatre.com.
