Flag placing at cemetery

Alpena County Veterans Council and VFW will be placing American flags on the graves of veterans Saturday.

Meet at 9 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery maintenance building.

The public is invited to help. Wear gloves, dress according to the weather and bring pliers, screwdriver and a five-gallon bucket. The job will be done rain, shine or snow.

All Saints has purchased flags for Holy Cross Cemetery and will meet at 10 a.m. at the cemetery office. Participants are asked to bring the same equipment as stated above.

Craft show at LLWC

Lost Lake Woods Club will host an Art and Craft Show from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the clubhouse.

Pancake breakfast Sat.

The Grand Lake Association is hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the historic Presque Isle Lodge, 8211 E. Grand Lake Rd.

The cost is $7 per adult and $3 per child 10 and younger, with blueberry and buttermilk pancakes, sausage, orange juice, coffee and milk.

Art gallery open house

Dragonfly Art Gallery at 116 E. Main St. in Harrisville will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday to welcome in the summer season.

5K at PI lighthouse Sun.

The 6th Annual Light Up the Sky 5K will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Sign-in and same-day registration begins at 7 a.m. at Presque Isle New Lighthouse Park, 4600 E. Grand Lake Rd.

Proceeds go to the Presque Isle Fireworks Fund. Call 989-255-2302 or 989-884-3144.

Pie contest June 1

Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library will host a pie baking contest at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

There are two entry categories: Young Adults (ages 12 to 17) and Adults (18 and older).

The entry fee is $5. Proceeds will benefit youth services at the library. Entries and fees must be submitted by 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

The library is hosting the contest to get in the spirit for the upcoming Michigan Notable Book author visit with Sister Pie’s Lisa Ludwinski.

Pies must be dessert (sweet, not savory) and crusts must be homemade.
