In honor of “National Safe Boating Week,” the USCG Auxiliary Alpena Flotilla will be offering free courtesy vessel safety checks from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Alpena Small Boat Harbor.

Life jackets, fire extinguisher, dated flares for the Great Lakes, etc., are some of the items that will be checked by Auxiliary members.

Those who pass the inspection will receive a 2019 Boating decal.

If someone fails the inspection, they will have an opportunity to correct the item and be re-inspected by the Auxiliary.
