Senior volunteers get background checks

Courtesy Photo Pictured here is foster grandparent volunteer Roseann Marlow, 88, having her fingerprints recorded by Deputy Scott Gagnon of Alpena County Sheriff’s Department.

Senior volunteers enrolled in Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency’s Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs recently gathered in Alpena for a mandatory recheck of their backgrounds, as these volunteers serve with vulnerable populations.

Foster grandparent volunteer Roseann Marlow, 88, had her fingerprints recorded by Deputy Scott Gagnon of Alpena County Sheriff’s Department.

Grandma Marlow has been serving 27 hours a week at Hinks Elementary School for three years and “loving every minute of it.”

A total of 67 dedicated senior volunteers traveled from nine counties in northeast Michigan to Alpena over two days to complete the process.

NEMCSA staff is grateful to the deputies of the Alpena County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.
