Body of missing teacher found

PORTAGE, Mich. (AP) — A man suspected for months in the disappearance of his wife killed himself and left a map that led police to her body in a remote hunting area in southwestern Michigan, police said Wednesday. Police finally solved the disappearance of Theresa Lockhart, a popular high school Spanish teacher, after finding Christopher Lockhart dead at his Portage home Tuesday. She had been missing since May. Lockhart left a note, admitting that he killed his wife and expressing remorse, said Portage Public Safety Director Nicholas Armold. “He and Theresa were having an argument and in the note he indicated he snapped,” Armold said. Her body was buried 50 miles away in the Allegan State Game Area, 60 feet from the nearest two-track road. Armold noted that Lockhart never asked for updates on the investigation and didn’t participate in searches for his wife. He was suspected in her disappearance but never charged. “You have a sinking feeling when you know what you know but you can’t prove it,” Armold said. “We just didn’t have enough to run with it.”
