Lumberjacks fall to Bay College
ESCANABA–An inability to keep up with Bay College in the second half doomed the Alpena Community College men’s basketball team’s chances to win on Wednesday.
ACC trailed 51-42 at halftime, but was outscored 62-49 in the second half en route to a 113-91 loss.
The Lumberjacks kept pace with Bay College in several statistical categories, but couldn’t match them offensively down the stretch.
“(It was a) tough fought game. We were even in every category except fouls and free throw attempts. We played our hearts out,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. (We) need to make some defensive adjustments and we’ll be good to go.”
Logan Guenther led ACC with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Tristan Smith had 13 points, Cam DeCaire had 12, Garrett Miller had 11 and Jordan Baker had 10.
ACC falls to 0-4 on the season and hosts Muskegon at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Bay College also defeated the ACC women’s team 87-60.
Kyra Feighner paced ACC (0-4) with 13 points and Taylor Livingston and Dakota Prevo each had 11.
“We got it down to 44-31 at halftime, but we gave up a big second half and couldn’t recover,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “We’re looking good, but we’re still working on putting the girls in position to be successful.”
ACC hosts Muskegon at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
