Beat the Geek returns

The bowl slate has been set for the college football season and readers of The Alpena News know what that means: the annual Beat the Geek contest is back.

Fill out an entry form and return it to The News by Dec. 24. All mailed entries must be postmarked by Dec. 24.

This year’s form is the same as the previous four years with the College Football Playoff. The final spot on the form has spots for players to fill in the two teams they think will make the CFP championship game from the two semifinals, the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl.

The two semifinals this year are Alabama vs. Oklahoma and Clemson vs. Notre Dame. Please be advised if the final spot is filled in incorrectly (for example with two teams that aren’t in the semifinals) or left blank, it will be marked wrong. Please also be sure to CIRCLE your winner for the championship game.

For his championship game pick, The Geek likes Alabama to beat Clemson.

The form will also be posted online at thealpenanews.com.

Think you can win? Don’t be afraid to fill out a form. The Geek picked 13 games correctly last year and Randy Prystash won the whole thing after being the only person to pick 17 out of 20 games correctly. As a reminder, the tiebreaker is the total number of points you think will be scored in the championship game.

Good luck to all players.
