2018 Alpena News 11-Player Football Team

During the ups-and-downs of the 2018 high school football season, Logan Guthrie was Mr. Consistent.

Having established himself as a big time playmaker for the Alpena Wildcats over the previous two seasons, Guthrie took his game to another level during his senior season. As Alpena’s back field leader, Guthrie proved tough for opposing defenses to stop as he rumbled for 1,073 yards and 11 touchdowns on 187 carries, an average of 5.7 yards per carry.

Guthrie’s hard work and talent paved the way for a special senior season where he cemented his place in program history. In Alpena’s win over Chelsea in the regular season finale, Guthrie broke the program’s career rushing record and finished his high school career with exactly 2,700 rushing yards.

For his stellar senior season, Guthrie has been named the 2018 all-Alpena News 11-Man Player of the Year. Guthrie also earned first team all-Big North Conference honors and joins former Alpena players such as Jordan Ferguson (2014), Josh Campbell (2010) and Jason Souva (2007) in earning Player of the Year honors.

Guthrie, a three-time all-Alpena News selection was one of five Alpena players selected to this year’s team.

Alpena senior running back Logan Guthrie was named the 2018 Player of the Year for the Alpena News 11-Player Football Team. Guthrie rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns and finished his career with exactly 2,700 rushing yards which allowed him to become Alpena's career rushing leader.

Offensive lineman Mitchell Pfeifer was named to the team along with defensive linemen Noah Connon and Zac Suszek and defensive back Eli Winter.

After an 8-2 season, Rogers City had eight players selected. Kaleb Budnick, who led the area in tackles was joined by defensive backs Jeff Ellenberger and Caleb Bade, linebacker Lewis Fleming, offensive linemen Griffin Bredow and Braden Idalski, wide receiver Ethan Hincka and running back Michael Karsten.

Oscoda also turned in an 8-2 season and had seven players selected. Quarterback Brayden Mallak, who led the area in passing, was joined by offensive linemen Jacob Condor and Adam Hein, running back Andrew Dault, wide receiver Owen Franklin and defensive linemen Christian Ward and David Gream.

Rounding out the team are Alcona linebackers Logan Witham and Mason Clark.
