Record-setting day for ACC cross country team

LANSING — Before Friday’s meet at Lansing Community College, two things had never happened for the Alpena Community College cross-country program.

One being that, every single runner on the team running a career best during the same race, and the other, having three runners run under 29:00 during the same race.

After Friday’s race, both were accomplished.

“The best way to describe today is incredible,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “The average PR (Personal Best) for each of my runners was 1:45. That is unheard of. Seven days a week, these young men show up early and not only train hard, they train hard with enthusiasm. Today was their reward for all of their hard work.”

Tylor Ross (Fairview) led the Lumberjacks with a time of 27:42, which was the fifth fastest time for an ACC runner since the program was reinstated in 2012. John Siegert (Ludington) followed Ross with a 28:04, a career best by 2:12.

“I have been telling everyone that John was going to have a breakout race today,” Jacobs said. “This kid has been practicing like a beast all year and he was ready to make a statement.”

Caleb Burger (Alpena) ran third with a time of 28:44. Following Burger were Mason Kaniszewski (Tawas) 29:40, Aidan Francis (Memphis) 30:06, Dallin Toth (Alpena) 31:21 and Camren DeCaire (Alpena) 34.24. Other area runners competing were Kolin Ghidoni (Ferris State) 28:53 and Ryan Wirgau (Spring Arbor) 29:13.

The Lumberjacks travel to Muskegon for the Jayhawk Invitational on Friday.
