Lumberjacks open season with pair of wins

The Alpena Community College volleyball team got the season off to a winning start with a pair of wins over Schoolcraft on Saturday at Park Arena.

The Lumberjacks won the first match 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 27-25) and won the second match (25-15, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18).

In the opening match, Shelby Seaver led Alpena with 10 kills and had three aces. Taylor Livingston had eight kills and three aces. Maya Meyers had seven kills and an assist. Setter Aleah Holmes had four kills, 22 assists and six aces.

Alexis Mutschler led Alpena defensively with eight digs, Holmes had four and Lauren LaFleche had three.

In the second game, Seaver had 10 kills, four aces and two blocks. Livingston had eight kills, two aces and a block and Myers had five kills and five aces.

Holmes and Kaylee Krussell had four kills each and Holmes had 20 assists and three aces.

Alpena hosts Henry Ford on Saturday with matches at 1 and 3 p.m.
