Stuck scores 28 as Rayders rout Alcona in regional semifinal

MANCELONA–For the second year in a row, Charlevoix ended the Alcona girls basketball team’s season.

Elise Stuck scored 28 points and the Rayders defeated Alcona 50-29 in a Class C regional semifinal in Mancelona on Tuesday.

Stuck scored eight of Charlevoix’s first 10 points and the Raiders opened the game on a 16-0 run as Alcona ran into foul trouble.

Faith Wallenmaier hit a pair of free throws to put Alcona on the board after the Rayders’ run and Alcona trailed 27-4 after one quarter.

“Charlevoix brings a lot of pressure and they forced us into some early mistakes. We were also unable to take advantage of some good scoring opportunities in the first quarter,” Alcona coach Mark Feldhiser said. “They got a big lead early and we were never able to really get going.”

Stuck finished with 16 points in the first eight minutes and had 24 by halftime.

Alcona trailed 37-11 at the break and 49-19 after three quarters.

Megan Grove and Taylor Livingston each led Alcona (13-9) with eight points. Jenelle Carpenter and Faith Wallenmaier each added four.

“Our team can be very proud of what we accomplished this year and we are already looking forward to next season,” Feldhiser said.

Charlevoix advances to play Maple City Glen Lake in Thursday’s regional final.
