Lumberjacks drop weekend contest at Henry Ford 96-71

DEARBORN — Coming into Saturday’s contest, the Alpena Community College men’s basketball team knew they had a tall task in front of them as they played Eastern Conference leader Henry Ford.

Not only did Henry Ford (15-3) enter the game undefeated in conference play, but the Hawks are also the No. 15 team in National Junior College Athletic Association rankings.

Alpena came in riding an eight game losing streak and played well at times, but the talented Hawks proved to be too much for the Lumberjacks as ACC fell by a final score of 96-71.

“Despite what the score read, we actually played better today than we did the previous two games,” ACC head coach Mark Jacobs said. “We missed a lot of chip shots that normally go in. There is a reason Henry Ford is undefeated in the conference and ranked top 15 in the nation. They are long and athletic. They also shot and rebounded well.”

Alpena was led by Michael Stuart who scored a team high 18 points and dished out seven assists. Jameson Pierrelus finished the night with 16 points. Azauyah Bell had 11 points and three steals and Cam DeCaire chipped in with nine points.

The Lumberjacks fall to 1-12 overall on the year and are 0-5 in conference play.

ACC will be back in action and look to snap its losing skid on Wednesday when they travel to Mott Community College.
