Wildcats play to 4-4 tie against Chelsea

GAYLORD — The Alpena hockey team competed in its second game of the D3 Challenge over the weekend in Gaylord and played to a 4-4 tie against Chelsea who came into the contest ranked as the number eight team in Division 3.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead on a goal by Alex Cosbitt with an assist from Noah VanDusen.

Chelsea tied the game up several minutes later thanks to a two on one break.

In the second period, the Bulldogs jumped to a quick 3-1 lead before goals by Kyle VanDusen (assisted by Colby Plowman and Alex Cosbitt) and Nate Cosbitt (assisted from Kyle Vandusen and Owen Limback).

Chelsea eventually grabbed the lead back on a breakaway goal to take a 4-3 lead into the third period.

The Wildcats controlled much of the play in the third period and Nate Cosbitt scored the tying goal with 1:09 left on assists from Kyle VanDusen and Owen Limback.

Despite the tie, Alpena outshot the Bulldogs 32-16.
