Owls improve to 4-1 with win over Eagles

FAIRVIEW–The Oscoda girls basketball team had itself a night on Friday, defeating Fairview 73-15. The Owls (4-1) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Lauren Langley led the the Owls in scoring with 20 points. Kate Etherton chipped in with 16 points and Brooke Nowiski added 14.

“Overall, I was happy with the effort tonight,” Oscoda coach Mark Toppi said. “We just came off a loss to Rogers City so it was good to see. We had fun tonight.”

The Owls return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Tawas.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Rogers City 70,

Onaway 44

ROGERS CITY–The Rogers City boys basketball team put together an impressive performance on Friday, defeating Onaway by a score of 70-44.

The win was the first of the season for the Hurons, (1-3) who led 38-27 at the half, and then blew the game open in the second half to win the game comfortably.

Ethan Hincka led the Hurons in scoring with 26 points and Phil Grambau added 17.

“We played well tonight,” Rogers City coach Matt Ponik said. “We cut our turnovers down and hit our free throws. We defended well and I’m proud of this win for the guys.”

Ponik went on to speak about the play of Hincka on the night.

“He hit his free throws and played under control. He’s growing as a player.”

Kevin Pearson led the way for Onaway, scoring 12 points. Trevor Wregglesworth and Lucas Tollini each added 11 points for the Cardinals (1-2).

Onaway will return to action when it hosts Forest Area on Thursday, while Rogers City is off until the end of Christmas break.
