Lumberjacks earn first win under Jacobs
The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season on Monday as the Lumberjacks defeated Lake Superior State JV by a final score of 104-81.
ACC was down 46-44 at the half, but got hot late and put together a huge second half that led to their first victory under first year head coach Mark Jacobs.
“This was a win that we needed. We have to use this as a tune up game for our next two games,” Jacobs said. “Two things we need to work on (are) getting out to a better start at the beginning of the game and defense. We cannot afford to give up 81 points to anyone. I’m pleased with the way the entire team pulled together in the second half. Now our focus has to be for the entire 40 minutes.”
The Lumberjacks were led by Jameson Pierrelus who poured in 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Michael Stuart scored 21 points, Oliver Rice added 20 points, Azaiyah Bell ended the night with 11 points and four steals and Elijah Harris chipped in with 10 rebounds in the win.
Alpena is 1-3 overall and will be back in action tomorrow when they play Bay College in its home opener at Park Arena.
